The Atikokan Amateur Radio Club was very active during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s during the construction of Ontario Hydro’s Atikokan Thermal Generating Station. Once the station was complete, many of Atikokan’s licensed amateurs moved away, and the club entered a lull.

Since then, the club has licensed about a dozen new hams, mostly high school students, and built several new stations. The club has participated in Field Day, provided communications at local events, and hosted the Fourth Atikokan Scouts at Jamboree on the Air for several years running.
Meetings are held the first Sunday of each month at 7:30, typically at the club station VE3YIB located at the Atikokan Airport.
